The Most Requested Feature

A common feedback from play-testers was: "The game is really great, but where is the story?".

Well, from now on I won't have to hear that question, because there is now a story. I think the story turned out interesting and that I found a way to present the story in a fitting way that doesn't get in the way of gameplay. However, so far no play-tester had a look at the story, which makes me worry about its pacing.

Though the story is certainly the biggest improvement in this update it should also be mentioned, that I made a new demo, too. I had the impression that the demo needs to get to the point a bit faster. So I made three short levels, custom build for the demo. It's a bit annoying to loose time on such things that do not improve the game itself, but it felt necessary (I think?).

And then there is a short list of bug-fixes and improvements:

  • the transition between glowing and non-glowing cubes is now animated
  • it is possible now to click on moving platforms to see which buttons influence their movement
  • the appearance of the color-change-animation is randomized, looking slightly different every time
  • adjustments to level "Movement is relative" to avoid cheese
  • the distance between bars is randomized for transparent fences.
  • the transparent-fence-shader fades to grey for steep angles or when far away. This avoids aliasing.
