Launch, Current Status and Outlook

Here is the early access beta of "Frame - Portals on Steroids". A game where you explore the world of movable portals, called frames.

Here are a view bullet points to give an impression about the state of the project and what's to expect next:

  • Currently available levels give an approximated 2 hours of play time with most levels being concerned with introducing new game mechanics. So the main focus will be on adding new levels that fully show and exploit the possibilities that Frames mechanics offer.
  • The game mechanics are considered feature complete.
  • Frame will keep its "abstract" look and I do not plan a complete overhaul of the visuals. However, there are some improvements planned: more textures for variety, different "textures/skybox-sets" for different levels, maybe some variation along the tiled textures etc.
  • There are a few minor bugs I'm aware of (level transition not 100% seamless, collision between character-controller and spheres glitchy in rare cases, sometimes blending in of new frame-renderings not animated) that need fixing.
  • There is something I call "die-event", that happens when, due to moving frames, an object gets squashed between immovable walls. This event is currently not explained and neither visually nor via audio indicated. Also the die-event detection needs improvement. These things need to be addressed before I can publish levels were those events can occur.
  • Performance improvements are intended. However, according to my tests Frame runs smoothly even on low tier hardware. So this point has a rather low priority at the moment.
